iGoogle

September 30th, 2007

I love keeping my stock portfolio on my computer since I do not guarantee that I can memorize all the stocks which I am watching from time to time. In the past, I made use of google desktop with the Stock Market gadget. The main benefit is I can keep it on my computer sidebar with the auto hide function. However, soon I found that it is not portable - the portfolio I kept in the office did not show up at my home!

Last year, Google released the iGoogle service. It can be highly customized just like google desktop, but with more function and bigger (a full screen web page vs a small sidebar). I added the Stock Market gadget just like what I did in Google Desktop. It provides me the “at least 15 minutes delayed” market price (I can live with it when the market is not running crazily), the changes in number and percentage, and the link to Google Finance chart to the customized stock.

Check out the following screenshot of my iGoogle:

As you can see, besides Stock Market Gadget, I also added couple others useful little guys:

* Google Finance Sector Summary

* Google Finance Market Summary

* Commodities Market

* Yahoo! Finance: Why the Rich Get Richer by Robert Kiyosaki

* SmartMoney.com

* Business and financial news - CNNMoney.com

* Reuters: Business News

* CFO.com: Today in Finance

* My Portfolio (I love this gadget which calculates my current earning of my portfolio in a table format. Who has time doing all these calculation hundred times a day!)

* Top Stories (You can’t only focus on financial news only to be successful in the market)
